Sakya Paṇḍita's Treasure of Reasoning of 1219 opened a classical age centred on Dharmakīrti's Pramāṇavārttika and on commentaries on Tibetan works themselves.
The classical period begins with Sakya Paṇḍita’s Treasure of Reasoning, composed in 1219, which criticised his Tibetan predecessors and shifted attention to Dharmakīrti’s Pramāṇavārttika. Tibetans also began to write commentaries on Tibetan works, starting with Sakya Paṇḍita’s own.
